Wordle Solver

Type each guess you've made, followed by what the tiles told you. The solver keeps only the words that fit every clue, and ranks them so the next guess you play eliminates the most possibilities.

Write the five letters, a space, then five colour codes:
g green (right letter, right spot) · y yellow (in the word, wrong spot) · x grey (not in the word)
So crane xxgxy means c,r,n are out, a is 3rd, e is in the word but not 5th. b is also accepted for grey.

How the clues are combined

Each line you add narrows the pool further, and the solver applies all of them at once. Green codes pin a letter to an exact position. Yellow codes require the letter to appear somewhere else. Grey codes remove the letter entirely — unless that same letter is green or yellow earlier in the row, in which case grey means "no more copies than we already found". That last rule is what trips up most Wordle helpers: if your guess was eerie and one e came back yellow while the others came back grey, the answer contains exactly one e, not three.

Ranking the remaining answers

Words are scored on two things that are known to work well for Wordle: how many distinct letters they contain, and whether those letters are among the most frequent in English. Repeating a letter you already know tells you nothing new, so candidates packed with fresh, common letters float to the top and are marked as the strongest next guess. The first result is not always today's answer — it is the word that will teach you the most if you use it.

FAQ

Does it know today's answer?
No, and it doesn't need to. The solver works only from the clues you enter, so it keeps working for any Wordle-like game, any day, without us storing or scraping anything.
What if I made a mistake in an earlier guess?
Delete that line. Because every clue is applied together, one wrong line can hide the real answer — clearing it usually brings the answer straight back.
Do I have to use five-letter guesses?
The solver only returns five-letter candidates, so keep your guesses at five letters too.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. The word list loads once and everything runs in your browser.
